Rugby

The business end to the season is upon us. Tows were in Cup or rather Shield action last week against our favourite foes, ON’s away on their patch! Although the result seems close, Tows were in charge for much of the game but it was nevertheless a great game to watch. A full match report from Jim Wallis, our Rugby Correspondent can be found on the rugby website.

Tows now face Bletchley who beat Daventry in their semi-final to set up what should be a cracking game at Franklins Gardens on Tuesday 19th in the Final of the Lewis Shield.

Plenty more rugby to be played and much at stake. The 1st XV have to pick themselves up after a surprise home defeat to go to Swindon for a league game this Saturday and then there is another crucial Cup game against ON’s again, also away on the 12th April in the Semi-Final of the Alliance Cup. Also don’t forget VP’s day, (All welcome) home game against Trowbridge, 9th Apr a special Charity day to. Please make a note in your diaries and come and give your support!

Tennis

Here is the report at the end of the Winter Tennis season.

The Teams had a Mixed Winter Season, as follows;

Ladies A Team finished 3rd in Div 2 of the Northampton Winter League

Ladies B Team finished 3rd in Div 4 of the Northampton Winter League

Mixed A Team finished 5th in Div 2 of the Banbury Floodlit League so were relegated but only on sets won/conceded as they tied on points with Banbury but only managed a 4-4 draw on the final match a 5-3 win would have seen them safe.

Mixed B Team finished 2nd in Div 4 of the Banbury Floodlit League, they had to win their final match 6-2 or better to get promoted, and managed an 8-0 win so get promoted, so well done to them.

Men’s Team finished 2nd in Div 5 of the Northampton League.

Mixed Banbury Winter Team finished 3rd in their League.

Many thanks to all the players who turned out for the Teams, especially during the winter evenings, driving to place like Hook Norton, Deddington, and Tysoe, a long drive back if you have lost, but the food that the home teams have put on make it worth the while along with some good friendly Tennis. thanks once again to all the players, and there is always room for players in the Team as we have an extra Mixed and Men’s team this Summer.

Our new coaching team have been very pro-active with Cardio Tennis sessions, and team training session, along with Junior coaching, this should have a good long term effect on the results of the Teams, and also pull in more players this year.
